Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is the key founder behind Everytown for Gun Safety, an organization advocating for increased gun safety. This group has begun airing a television advertisement in the states of New Hampshire, Nevada, Arizona, and Washington, D.C. in order to convince senators in these states to support gun restrictions for convicted domestic abusers. Senator Amy Klobuchar has proposed a bill called the Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act that would ban the possession of guns from convicted stalkers and domestic abusers. While federal law currently prevents gun ownership and possession for those that have a misdemeanor domestic abuse conviction, the bill proposed by Klobuchar will expand this federal law to include convicted stalkers. The definition of domestic abuse would be expanded to include non-married dating partners.
