Are you facing felony drug possession charges in Phoenix, or anywhere else in Maricopa County? If so, you will soon learn about Maricopa County’s TASC Adult Deferred Prosecution Program, otherwise known as TASC Diversion. The TASC Diversion program was established in 1989, and since that time has been a successful alternative to traditional prosecution. The program boasts a success rate of more than 73 percent, and according to a long-term study conducted by Arizona State University, those who complete the program have a much lower rate of recidivism than those who do not participate in the program. As of this writing, more than 34,000 defendants have successfully completed the TASC Diversion program, which not only saved Maricopa County valuable resources, but allowed program participants to avoid the stigma of a felony conviction.

Do I qualify for TASC Diversion?

If you are interested in participating in TASC Diversion, you must meet the following requirements set forth by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO):

  • You must be facing a felony drug possession charge
  • You CANNOT contest your guilt
  • You will benefit from community treatment

If you are accepted into the TASC program, it will include fees, screening, counseling sessions, and drug testing. You have to make sure that you are drug and alcohol-free while participating in the program. Our initial goal is not to get you accepted into the diversion program, but to beat your charges. If there are holes in your case, we will look to see if there is a way to get your case dismissed. If that is not practical, we will look to get you into the diversion program if it will result in the best possible outcome. Once enrolled in the TASC program, the MCAO keeps tabs on the participant’s progress, and the treatment itself is individually tailored to meet each person’s needs. Defendants who voluntarily enroll in and complete the TASC program will have one of two outcomes: 1) their case will be dropped and no charges will be filed, or 2) their charges will be dismissed. If you are facing drug charges in Phoenix, contact the Davidson Criminal Defense & DUI Law Firm, PLC for a free consultation!
