The suspect in a high-speed police pursuit that involved two law enforcement agencies on Tuesday morning is one of the alleged slingshot freeway shooters that struck in September near Queen Creek. C. Cook, 19, is behind bars at Maricopa County’s 4th Avenue Jail. Cook was arrested on Tuesday morning after a police pursuit came to an end near the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. The high-speed pursuit not only crossed two counties, but it was extremely dangerous and threatened lives. In the end, the stolen vehicle erupted in flames in the middle of the desert. Mark Clark, spokesman for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said that Cook traveled off road and along canal banks. He said Cook’s driving became so dangerous, that the Pinal County Sheriff’s office stopped pursuing him.
PCSO Dispatchers Receive Call About Suspicious Vehicle
The incident began when PCSO dispatchers received a call from a concerned resident who saw a white Honda deriving in the neighborhood suspiciously. A deputy was dispatched to the area and eventually located Cook passed out in a white Honda. When Cook woke up and saw the deputy, he took off, leading officers on a 10-minute pursuit, which soon became extremely dangerous. PCSO’s air unit was kept tabs on the stolen vehicle and MCSO picked up the pursuit until Cook drove onto a field between Ellsworth and Sossarman roads. A witness told 12 News that Cook was doing brodies and the cops could not control him. The witness said that the cops were trying to block him but he managed to get away. The pursuit finally came to an end with the Honda erupting into flames. The witness said it looked as if the car was going to explode. Cook was taken out of the burning vehicle and into custody, but this isn’t the first time the 19-year-old was arrested in 2015. He is one of the “copycat freeway shooters” arrested in September for allegedly firing slingshots into break windows in Queen Creek. Cook is still in the middle of that case. The owner of the Honda said that he reported it stolen when he was at a friend’s house in the San Tan Valley on Monday. In Maricopa County, Cook is being charged with felony flight and reckless driving. In Pinal County, he is facing charges for stealing the vehicle, for reckless driving, and for the pursuit.
